The Space Between: Navigating the Inner Work of Transition

Change happens in a moment, but transition is where most of the real work takes place.

Change and transition are often spoken about as if they are the same, but they are not. Change is the event. Transition is the process.

Change can happen in a moment: a decision, a loss, a new beginning, an ending you did or didn’t choose. Transition is everything that unfolds after the moment of change. It’s the internal movement, the reorientation, the intentional work of finding your footing again.

Transition is the space between where you are and where you’re going. It’s the gap, the part that feels uncertain, disorienting, or stretched. It’s also the part that grows you.

This in between place can feel tricky because it asks something of you.
It asks for honesty.
It asks for patience.
It asks for a willingness to step into what is unfamiliar.

If you’re in transition, don’t be discouraged. You’re not behind. You haven’t lost your way. You’re moving through the very process that makes growth possible.

Let the gap be a place of learning and growing into the next chapter.

What may help steady you in this space

✦ noticing what feels uncertain
✦ acknowledging what has changed
✦ allowing yourself to not have answers yet
✦ naming what is shifting internally
✦ giving yourself grace to be where you are
✦ trusting that growth is happening even when it’s not visible
✦choosing one small step, not the perfect step, the honest one based on where you are now

Why Clarifying Your Values Matters

why

The next time you find yourself searching for a reason you haven’t started, completed, or followed through on something, pause and ask if it truly matters to you. If the answer is yes, spend some time exploring why it matters. When you ask yourself why something is important, you are tapping into your personal values.

Your values are always shaping your choices whether you’re aware of them or not. Clarifying them and using them as a guide can change your life. If you haven’t taken the time to write down what matters most to you, I encourage you to make it a priority. Life flows when you are clear on your values.

We are likely to struggle to keep commitments when they are not clearly connected to personal values. When this happens, commitments tend to be rooted in fear and obligation rather than in your heart.

Today is a great day to evaluate your commitments to ensure they are in alignment with your values. If not, give yourself permission to make changes or let them go.

Clarify what is most important to you and why. It will help you move toward what you desire with clarity and intention.

Clarifying your values ensures that your choices in your relationships, your work, your commitments, and your daily life are aligned, sustainable, and true to who you are.

If you want support clarifying what matters most, Be True to You: A Practical Guide to Pursuing an Authentic Path is designed to help you clarify what is most important to you and bring it to life. Click here to learn more about Be True to You.
